Dannevirke from East Karlegat to West Karlegat

King Godfred strengthened the Dannevirke, he constructed Kovirke, the wall went from sea to sea. The defensive wall should protect the main wall and Hærvejen. Kovirke was ca 2 meter tall and  7 meter in width. The moat in front of the wall was 4 meter in witdh & 3 meter deep.
The monasteries at Whitby, Hartlepool and Tynemouth were looted by Norwegian vikings. The monasteries on the eastern coast of Northumbria were an easy target for the Vikings too gain lucrative proper loot.
