1066 - French horsepower broke England

Peter Nicolai Arbo England 5th January 1066 , The English king Edward the confessor and then earl Harold Godwinson was proclaimed king at Westminster Abbey the day after the 6th. Edward the confessor  had promised both Harold and William "Bastard" of Normandy the seat of the throne before he died. Both men were distant relatives to the childless Edward the confessor. When William heard of it he quickly raised an army. Harald Hardrada also claimed the English throne and he was faster than William the bastard and on 8th September,1066  240-300 Viking ships landed on the beaches of Scarborough and began an attempt to gain the English throne. 20th September,1066  Battle of Fulford : Harald Hardrada defeated the English earls Edwin and Walther. 2 days later Harald Hardrada attacked and conquered York. 24th September,1066 Harold Godwinson arrived after marching from London. 25th September,1066 Battle of Stamford bridge Battle of Stamford bridge Harald...

1041 - Harald Hardrada led a campaign against the bulgars


England
The inhabitants of Worcester rebelled against the Danegeld being collected by King Harthacnut, and killed two of his tax collectors. Harthacnut responded by burning Worcester to the ground.

Edward the Confessor came back from his exile in Normandy to become the heir of his half-brother Harthacnut as King of England. He reduced the fleet from 60 to 32 ships due to the harsh tax burden.

Central Asia
Ingvar the widefarer started an expedition south from Sweden.  Georgian historians mentioned a group of Vikings who helped King Bagrat IV of Georgia in a war against some rebels
Ingvar the widefarer tried to reestablish trade routes to Serkland(Arabia). Ingvar was later killed as his expedition ended in disaster somewhere in central Asia, There are no less than 26 Ingvar related Runestones, 23 of them being in the Lake Mälaren region of Uppland.
Bulgaria
Harald Hardrada led a campaign against the Bulgars. At the battle of Ostrovo Harald crushed the Bulgars to an extent that they were under Byzantine rule for 145 years.
In December Harald Hardrada left Byzans for Kiev.
Italy
Viking trade routes
March 17: Battle of Olivento was fought near the river Olivento in Apulia. Normans and Lombards led by William Iron Arm was victorious against the Byzantine Empire's Varangian Guard led by Michael Doukeianos, Catepan of Italy, and Harald Hardrada.
May 4: Battle of Montemaggiore fought by the river Ofanto near Cannae in Apulia in the Catepanate of Italy. Normans and Lombards led by William Iron Arm was again victorious against the Byzantine Empire.
