802 - Vikings sacked and burned Iona

Vikings to the 3 to 6 day long journey across the North sea and the monastery on the remote Scottish island Iona, was attacked second time, Vikings grabbed everything valuable they could find from churches and monasteries. Altar books were robbed for gemstones and the ornamental fittings of the books were torn off. Gold and silver crucifixes, censers for holding incense, candle snuffers, saintly relics, monstrances and candelabra were carried away and this time the monastery was also burned 1)
