| Ansgar preaches |
Ansgar returned home from Sweden, where king Bjorn and the Swedish people in Birka was friendly and showed some minor interest in the christian faith. After the return of Ansgar he was appointed bishop of Hamburg and pope Gregor 4. gave him a papal delegate to preach for the Slavs and Danes.

First arrival of Danish vikings. Turgesius landed in the north of Ireland and a raid on Conaille Muirthemne in 831 in which the king Máel Brigte mac Spelain was abducted and ransomed the vikings went after a bigger target the next year : Armagh.
