Ingvar the widefarer Emundsson Swedish expedition reached the Black Sea in 1039, the normal route up the Don, over to the Volga and down to the Caspian Sea was closed.
Wales
Meurig ap Hywel, who would later become King of Glamorgan, was captured by vikings and ransomed.
